William Saliba’s career at Arsenal has yet to take off.
Saliba was recruited by the Saint-Etienne Ligue 1 team in the summer of 2019, remaining on loan for a season with the Greens before returning to north London at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.
The talented youngster then failed to play a single minute for the first team in the first half of the following season before Arsenal decided to send him on loan, joining Nice in January 2020.
The Frenchman’s future in north London was quickly called into question after head coach Mikel Arteta chose to sign Ben White from Brighton for £ 50million before allowing Saliba another temporary move – this time in Marseille.
However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has now claimed on his “Hero we Go” podcast that the 20-year-old is still highly rated by the Gunners.
Romano said: “Arsenal are following William Saliba’s performance with Marseille, they are very happy with him.
“The club told him several weeks ago that they were counting 100% on him for the future of Arsenal.”
A number of Gunners loyalists have taken to social media to express their joy at Saliba’s notoriety in France. Here’s how a select few on Reddit reacted.
Francois-c92: “Gabriel, White and Saliba are great young players to have on your team as a center-back.”
hungaryisinasia: “People are overreacting to this situation. Wasn’t going to have any minutes here this season, maybe he should have, we let him go to France on loan where he wanted. Why are we? he would like. “
Zippy129: “I really hope the fact that we didn’t tie him to a new contract before sending him on his third loan doesn’t bite us.”
distal2proximal: “This is news I want to hear.”
lastday23: “Dude, all those people who were impatient and hated arteta are starting to lose their voice a little bit every two weeks. I hope we can all support Mikel despite his early pitfalls. I can see this team and this manager growing together with it. real chemistry and hunger to win. I really want to see Mikel win a pl with these young kids. “
AngerProblemsXD: “Handsome to here.”
