Arsenal fans will be anxiously awaiting the end of this season, domestically anyway, after a miserable and inconsistent campaign in the Premier League.
The Gunners have a Europa League semi-final to look forward to tonight. Mikel Arteta, apparently a master at cup competitions, will be in desperate need of some silverware and will wait even longer in the face of mounting pressures.
As a club, Arsenal are a little upset. Growing unrest off the pitch puts the Kroenkes under pressure. Additionally, Spotify owner Daniel Ek has now declared his interest in buying the club. All of this leads to some volatile things in the boardroom as summer approaches. That, of course, won’t do Arteta and his chief transfer guru, Edu, a favor.
Still, that hasn’t stopped a number of names from already being linked with moves to Arsenal. A number of players have reportedly been identified by Edu, while the Brazilian also intends to raise significant funds by selling many fringe players. The likes of Eddie Nketiah, Lucas Torreira and Ainsley Maitland-Niles could all leave.
Last summer Arsenal made some decent steps into the market. In defense, they signed Gabriel Magalhaes. In midfield, Thomas Partey came in for a lot of money late in the window, while Willian came in on a free and Dani Ceballos came back for a second spell.
But many Gunners feel the team and the Premier XI lack real quality and depth. And some Arsenal fans watching the Champions League last night feel that PSG midfielder Marco Verratti could be the ideal signing.
Marco Verratti impresses for PSG despite City defeat
Now, there’s probably no way Arsenal will be able to land Verratti in a realistic world. The 28-year-old Italian is a regular at PSG and has become a key element under Mauricio Pochettino since taking office. But that doesn’t mean fans can’t choose which players they’d like.
Verratti, with his combative but composed style, is certainly someone you might imagine in the Arsenal midfield. He would bring the necessary fight alongside Partey. But at the same time, he has the quality with the ball, the experience at the highest level and the all-out winning mentality that clubs like Arsenal desperately need.
The Italian midfielder drew attention last night against Manchester City. He was particularly good in the first 45 minutes, where PSG had the best over Pep Guardiola’s men in Paris.
Arsenal fans were taking note of Verratti on Twitter, with a number of them discussing how good he could be for a signing. Based on his performance last night, as well as his overall game throughout the season, it certainly looks like Verratti would be a superb addition for any club, let alone Arsenal.
But last night it was the Gunners fans who were discussing Verratti. So here’s a look at what some Arsenal supporters had to say about Marco Verratti.
Marco Verratti so, so good in those tight spaces. What a player.

He’s been one of the best in the world for a few years, but he’s criminally underrated.

A type of player that we need next to Xhaka or Partey.
