Arsenal apparently moved early with their summer transfer business, thanks to new boy Richard Garlick.
According to The daily mail, Arsenal are in talks to bring Norwich City playmaker Emi Buendia to the Emirates Stadium, as HITC Sport subsequently reported.
The report adds that Garlick – who was recently named the Gunners’ director of football operations – is the man behind the development.
Arsenal may well need a new creative spark in the next transfer window.
The North Londoners signed Martin Odegaard on a half-season loan from Real Madrid in January, but it remains to be seen if a permanent transfer can be agreed.
With that in mind, a move for Buendia makes a lot of sense and here’s how some fans at Emirates Stadium reacted to the new speculation on Twitter:
Edu’s role called into question
There is a bit of confusion regarding the agreement.
This is because Edu and Mikel Arteta were the ones previously in charge of Arsenal recruiting, so either Garlick joined to be a third wheel or the report is slightly wrong to begin with.
What’s not in dispute is that the Gunners need new blood this summer.
Arteta’s side have just finished eighth in the Premier League table and their four best prospects have been drawn since almost November.
Failure to qualify for the Champions League next season could well result in the departure of Arteta, which means it is paramount for the club to recruit well over the summer months.
