There is little love lost between Tottenham and Arsenal and it was fully visible when Jamie O’Hara clashed with a caller on talkSPORT about the condition of the two clubs.
Things haven’t gone as planned this season for any of the north London rivals, with Spurs seventh and Gunners ninth in the Premier League.
Revisions are desperately needed for both sides as doubts remain over Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham.
But which club is best placed? Former Spurs midfielder O’Hara has pleaded for his former club.
It didn’t go very well with Arsenal fans and Julian the Gooner called Thursday’s talkSPORT Breakfast to challenge O’Hara over his verdict.
No punches were fired during this brilliant exchange as the pair faced off live.
Arsenal fan Julian said: “Tottenham are a year behind Arsenal. This is their best result. They need a new manager, a new defense and a new midfielder. They are about to lose their attacker.
“Arsenal they have Arteta and okay he’s not Pep Guardiola but he’s decent and Tottenham aren’t about to go get Allegri are they?”
O’Hara said: “You’re not going to spend more than Spurs. It’s not going to happen. You know it won’t happen.
“All your fans hate the owners. All I constantly see on Twitter is Kroenke. He’s not going to spend a lot of money.
“Mikel Arteta was deputy manager of Pep Guardiola and got the Arsenal job. You are ninth in the table.
“Your best player is Aubameyang and he’s hung up this season after signing a £ 350,000-a-week contract.
“You can’t say you’re ahead of Spurs because you finish behind us every season.”
Julian said: “We’ve had a terrible, terrible season, I’ll give that to you. Aubameyang, no one would have expected that.
O’Hara argued, “But we also had a terrible season.”
Julian replied, “You have to start the cleanup. At best, you’re a year late. You have to do this summer what we’ve been doing for a while.
O’Hara stepped in and said, “I don’t agree with that. We can do it this summer, but Arsenal don’t. They are pretenders.
“Arsenal haven’t been a big club for eight years. When was the last time you had Champions League football?
“Arsenal wins the FA Cup, well done. When was the last time you entered the Champions League? “
Julian added: “We could enter Europe this summer. It has been 26 years in Europe. It would be 26 years in Europe.
“The best thing you can do is try to get Wenger out of retirement, it’s your best bet. This is the only chance you have to enter Europe next season, Jamie.
O’Hara continued to be challenged over his views with another fan calling for a debate with the ex-Tottenham man but was told to ‘break through’.
And the talkSPORT expert reiterated his view that Spurs are in a better position than Arsenal, despite the Gunners recovering to form.
Since Boxing Day, only Man City have won more points (57) than Mikel Arteta’s side (44). Spurs have gained just 34 points since then.
Premier League table since Boxing Day
- Man City – 57 points
- Arsenal – 44 points
- Man United – 42 points
- Chelsea – 42 points
- West Ham – 41 points
- Leeds – 39 points
- Leicester – 39 points
- Liverpool – 35 points
- Tottenham – 34 points
- Everton – 33 points
- Brighton – 29 points
- Aston Villa – 27 points
- Burnley – 26 points
- Crystal Palace – 26 points
- Wolves – 25 points
- Newcastle – 24 points
- West Brom – 19 points
- Southampton – 19 points
- Fulham – 18 points
- Sheffield United – 18 points
On why he thinks Tottenham are in a better position, O’Hara added: “All I’m saying is I think Spurs are in a better position because I think they have a better team, they have more. for them they finish above Arsenal every season, they have a better stadium, better training facilities and are a better football club.
“We were in the Champions League two seasons ago. We have had a bad season and we are still above Arsenal.
“If we win against Leicester, we end up above Arsenal. We will be in the Europa League and Arsenal will not be in the Europa League, so we are in a better position.
