Manchester United plan to make a late decision for Arsenal target Kieran Trippier, according to AS (print edition, page 14, Aug 28, 2021).
What is the story?
AS (print edition, page 14, Aug 28, 2021) reported Premier League giants United are considering making an offer for former Tottenham Hotspur right-back Trippier in the dying days of the summer transfer window.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are also keen on the Atletico Madrid defender, but United are leading the race for the England international, according to the report.
La Liga champions Atletico will not sell the 30-year-old for less than € 40m (£ 34.28m).
As for United, it should also be pointed out that journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed on Twitter that the defender would not join them, as Diogo Dalot is expected to stay unless the Red Devils receive “unexpected proposals”.
An unlikely Arsenal transfer
Arsenal would need a new right-back this summer.
Hector Bellerin doesn’t seem like the player he was, while Trippier is at the top of his game and is still going strong despite his 30 years.
However, it’s hard to see the Gunners shell out € 40million (£ 34.28million) for a 30-year-old.
Additionally, Trippier is a former Tottenham player and United fan.
Arsenal is unlikely to fight for the Champions League places in the Premier League table this season.
Trippier won the La Liga title with Atletico last season.
Atletico also play the Champions League year after year.
