PS5 stock update: Sony console back in stock in stores including Argos after huge wait

The PS5 launched in November 2020, but supply issues and a global semiconductor shortage have slowed production of Sony’s next-gen console – see the latest replenishment updates from Game, Amazon and more below

New stock is hard to find, and when it does show up, the PS5 sells out fast

It’s been nine months since the PlayStation 5 finally arrived in the UK – but demand remains at an all-time high, with all eyes on the internet as retailers prepare to ditch new inventory.

Eager gamers flocked to buy the console in November 2020 on global shelves, with retailers selling in record time.

Supply issues and a global semiconductor shortage resulted in production stopping the day after launch day, with delays continuing a year later.

For those who still haven’t managed to get their hands on the new console, there is good news, as rumors suggest several retailers may be restocking starting Tuesday.

On Main Street, Argos again has the PS5 in stock starting at £ 449.99 while bidders can buy the console from £ 520 on auction sites and eBay.

Last week, Smyths Toys saw a real-world drop and was awarding PS5 consoles to everyone who came and pre-ordered in stores. If you were successful in going in and getting one, the @ PS5StockAlertUK Twitter account says your order should be filled between August 12 and August 17.

Insiders also teased an Amazon and gaming drop this week. We also expect EE to come back to stock today, as it did over the last six days of the week.

Figures from Sony, the maker of Playstation 5, show more than 10 million consoles have traded hands globally since they entered the market last year.

Experts at the gaming giant have predicted another rise ahead of Christmas as the gift-buying windfall begins.

Analysis by TechRadar suggests that US and UK retailers will see an increase in the number of buyers looking to purchase Sony’s next-gen machine this fall.

Growing demand will be compounded by the arrival of Black Friday and Cyber Monday in November.

“Two months from now, it will become much more difficult when parents realize that they need this console to fill their child’s Christmas wish list,” TechRadar said.

“Even if Sony increased the supply of PS5 Disc and PS5 Digital consoles, demand would skyrocket just before Black Friday and Cyber Monday.”

The PS5, successor to the PS4 and the PS4 Pro, is available in two separate versions.

There’s the expensive PS5 – the classic, and the digital edition, which is cheaper but without a disc tray.

The two consoles go head-to-head with next-gen consoles from Microsoft, the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

Meanwhile, Sony says it’s also working on a new virtual reality headset designed for the PlayStation 5 – and it could be released as early as next year.

The Japanese tech titan has already unveiled some of the specifications and capabilities of the PSVR 2, but is keeping the exact release date a closely guarded secret.

Games available on PS5 include Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Cyberpunk 2077, NBA 2K21, Godfall and more.

PlayStation has announced upcoming PS5 games like God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West in the coming months.
