Arsenal fans have been angry after Mikel Arteta’s latest comments on Reiss Nelson, that were made at Football London.
Nelson has barely played for Arsenal all season, with just nine appearances to his name.
Arteta hasn’t picked Nelson to feature at all since January, with the youngster’s future seemingly firmly on the table.
But Arteta came out and spoke about the youngster now, saying he felt sorry for him.
He said, “With Reiss, I would like to give her more.
“He’s a boy who trains very hard, he wants to do more all the time but it’s very difficult at the moment with the players that we have to adapt to him. I’m sorry we don’t have other competitions to use it because it deserves more. If he doesn’t play anymore, it’s my fault.
Unfortunately for Arteta, his explanation has not been well received by Arsenal supporters, who are frustrated that the winger has not been given more playing time.
Arteta’s regular use of the struggling Willian created great annoyance among Arsenal supporters.
And it seems to continue to anger Arsenal fans that Willian is being given playing time against Arteta, as the Gunners manager appears to be suggesting that there is no way to get the winger into his squad.
Nelson could have a chance before the campaign is over as Arsenal’s season currently depends on the Europa League.
But there must be some concern over whether the 21-year-old will go much longer than that, without first-team football.
Nelson clearly has a high level of ability, but after being sidelined for so long he will surely want Arsenal to give him more chances if he is to stay.
