Steven Bergwijn may have hinted on Instagram about his return to Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.
The out of form Spurs welcome Aston Villa to north London today.
Bergwijn has been injured since the 2-2 draw with Rennes in the Europa Conference League last month.
When the Dutch winger was in good shape, Tottenham won their first three Premier League games with him.
Without him, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team have lost their last three games.
It illustrates well his importance to the cause, but Bergwijn – a £ 25million signing by Jose Mourinho – posted a cryptic social media post that included an hourglass emoji, suggesting something is imminent.
Here’s how some Lilywhites fans are reacting on Twitter:
Bergwijn won’t solve all of Spurs’ problems if he makes his comeback today.
But he’s clearly someone Nuno likes a lot, as shown by how well he played him at the start.
And so we must respect the fact that the Portuguese coach has deprived himself of one of his great players in recent weeks.
There’s a lot to hate about the former PSV winger – namely his finish – but at the same time there’s a lot to admire and although he’s not a world batsman he can certainly shake things up and this is precisely what Tottenham lacked. ; creativity.
