German athletics star Alica Schmidt is “taking a break” from the sport after her trip to the Tokyo Olympics did not go as planned.
The 22-year-old, dubbed “the sexiest athlete in the world” by a number of supporters and websites, took to Instagram on Tuesday to admit she was “not satisfied” with the way whose 2021 races went – and revealed she had struggled with COVID-19 and injuries.

Schmidt traveled to Tokyo but never had a chance to compete as the German team were disqualified for making contact with the Jamaican team in the mixed 4x400m relay. Schmidt also failed to secure a place in the roster for the preliminary 4x400m relays.
“I worked harder than ever, day in and day out, pushed my limits with every workout and made so many sacrifices,” the Puma-sponsored athlete wrote alongside a collage of photos and videos from her workouts. training throughout the year.

In May, Schmidt expressed how grateful she was to run outdoors again after suffering “a torn ligament and some muscle issues,” she explained in an Instagram post.
